Hearing Tonal Music Teaching App
This project is an interactive program designed to train university-level music students in the relationship between the visual representation of the notes on sheet music and the sound that one hears when the same note is played by an instrument. The user is provided with a great deal of theory and puts that information into practice with exercises. A typical exercise consists of listening to a piece of music and placing each of the corresponding notes on a staff to match the played piece. Music data created by users during the note placement exercises is converted into MIDI files and played back via orchestral instrument samples with QuickTime in real time to compare and associate with the original pre-recorded piece of music.
